If you’ve ever watched sailing yacht races and wondered how they make those things go so fast, you have a chance to find out. You can sign on to "crew" an America’s Cup racing yacht right in Puerto Vallarta, it’s tons of fun, and it’s not far from your Puerto Vallarta Villa Rental.
A local tour operator, Vallarta Adventures, owns a couple of America’s Cup sailing yachts, and they will take you out, teach you a few tricks and set their two yachts up for a race. The professional crew will show you how to trim your sails, how to tack and jibe, and how to make a racing yacht go fast! It’s high adventure on the sea, and it’s a blast.
The trip lasts about 3 hours. All you need is your sunblock, comfortable clothes and some soft-soled running shoes; they provide all the professional gear for this outing. And don’t worry if you’ve never been on a sailboat before - no experience needed. And, if you want the experience but you don’t want to work, they can handle that, too.
They don’t run these America’s Cup trips every day, so you need to check ahead to learn when they are racing and when they have space available (they can’t take huge numbers of people). And there’s a bit of confusing information on their website: they warn that the minimum age for sailors is 12, but they have rates for kids 8 to 12. The trips leave from the Maritime Terminal in Puerto Vallarta.
